Placing Code within Echo Statement

I'm trying to place PHP code inside an echo tag. How do i do it?

echo "<? code ?>";

I can't find any way that works!!

BTW - Don't ask why - it's too complicated to explain!!! :rolleyes:

if you simply want to echo PHP to the browser for display look at highlight_file() and highlight_string().

or do you mean something like:

echo "Today's date is: ".date("m/d/Y")." and your name is $name ";

I'll try to explain why....

I'm pulling a page from a database, using MySQL/PHP, and I have got a page with PHP code in it. For some reason, the code does not run when echoed from the database into a webpage.

I suppose it is similar to the second example, but it doesn't seem to work 😕

well instead of using echo"";

try show_source for that..

read up in the manual about it

Well, no - what you're pulling out of the database is just text - PHP has no reason to treat it as PHP code unless you tell it so (otherwise it would probably choke every time the text contained a dollar sign). To order PHP to run the contents of a string as code, see if the eval() function is right for you.

I think something like eval("?>".$string."<?php"); might work - it depends. Experiment.
