mkdir issues

Hi all

Just wondering, when using mkdir to creat a folder, I know that php creates the folder as nobody, is there anyway to create the folder using the correct "owner" so that I can delete or modify the folder physically through FTP.

The reason I ask, is I am creating a system to create folders and files on a server. It gives all the right permissions, however because the dir info says that the folder is owned by nobody I am unable to remove these files at all.

Has anyone ever come across this problem or even a work around.*

*and before you mention fsockopen, I am completely baffled by this function, so if that is one work around, could someone explain to to me 🙂 ?????

Since PHP is probably running as a plugin to your webserver, I don't believe you can create directories under a different owner. One option you have is to create a Perl script for directory creation, that should create under whatever your user for the server is. Another option is to create a file manager in PHP so you can remove those directories.

Yes, I had problems with this, but then I found that the second parameter in mkdir is a chmod setting:

mkdir ("myfolder", 0777);

will create a folder which can be read, written and executed by anyone (that probably isnt quite what you want though, check out other chmod values). The problem I'm having now though is when PHP creates a file using fopen, it doesnt let you set a chmod value so I can't delete files created by PHP except through another PHP script. I tried the PHP chmod () command and it still didn't work. Any ideas anyone?
