using &lt;&lt;&lt;html help!

using <<<html help!

hi im trying to do the following:

$main = <<<html
<font>something here</font>
<!--rest of page goes on blablabla-->
html;

echo "$main";

i get an parse error usually in the middle of the html
why is this? ive used other scripts that use this way of echoing html why wont it work in mine 😢 any ideas?

Can't see without an example of a failure, but perhaps your big block of html has a line starting with "html"?

i quickly made a script which is this:

<?
$content =<<<html
<font>hi</font>
<font>hisdf</font>
<font>hidsf</font><font>hidsfs</font>
<font>hisdf</font>
html;
echo "$content";
?>

it give an error of

Parse error: parse error in /Users/nick/Sites/sites/News/slash.php on line 6

hmm weird must be my comp, the weird thing is ive used ohter scripts on my comp that use that way of echoing html and they working fine

do you know what the page at php.net for this is?

i just tried it on my webhost and it worked fine do you think it has somthing to do with the version of php i have, its 4.2.3
