How do I Force a Download of a Word doc ?

I have a web site where people can download Word documents. At present, the message at the top reads "Right Click, and Select Save Target As..." - This is a bit sloppy.

I am sure there is a way to send a header to the browser, so it doesn't automatically open the Word document (or PDF for that matter) in the browser window.

Anyone know how ?

Here's what i use,

header('Content-Type: application/save');
header('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="$filename"');
readfile($fullfilepath);
exit;

this prompts to download everytime.

$filename is simply the name that appears in the download box.
and $fullfilepath is the path to the file (including the filename).

Content-Type: application/octet-stream

is a preferred way, i think...

i 've read that in other places, however, i found that it didn't work correctly, only application/download worked all the time for me
