What is up with date()????

Can anyone tell me why when I query for a date field which has a value of 1960-05-10 then set it to a variable $DOB, then take that variable and then do one of these

echo date("m/d/Y",$DO😎;

It then outputs 12/31/1969 on the page!?!?!?!?

What is up with that?

you dont use the date function to do this, it is done in the mysql query should go something like this:

$query = "SELECT DATE_FORMAT(date_column, '%m %d %Y') FROM tablename;"

That's because $DOB needs to be a Unix-style timestamp (seconds since 1970-1-1 00:00:00). See the strtotime() function for one way to convert your date string into such a timestamp. explode() and mktime() will give you another.

I prefer my way - doesn't assume MySQL.

I will go with the the MySQL method of date formating, but it is also great to know the other way too.
