why am i getting this error?

i have one file that holds the global vars for every file, called variables.php, now on my home computer (windows xp server) it works perfect, but once i upload it to my unix server, i get this error

Fatal error: Failed opening required 'users/variables.php' (include_path='') in /home/olhd/public_html/new/users/library.php on line 2

NOTE: The variables have been changed on the server, to correspond to its values.

Not sure since I"m new to php, but in html, you get this problem if you use absolute links instead of relative links in your coding, could this be the case in this instance?

Is it anything to do with your "include_path" setting in php.ini?

im using require ('variables.php')
it works for my index page, but not my search page

Have you tried using the absolute path?

/usr/path/to/some/dir/which/has/variables.php

PS FWIW, I wouldn't feel exactly at ease with [Include path="]

Usually, there's a default include location set up when PHP is installed...
