Mysql Text datatype

Hi all
I am insert a paragraph in a mysql database table and the datatype of the column is 'text'. But when i retrieve the value from the database and display it on a page, it's not preserving the new line. Its displaying everything without any line breaks

How did you insert the line breaks in the original text? Why do want line breaks in a single paragraph anyway? Or is it more than one paragraph? And how did you insert the text? From a text or SQL file or did you key it into the MySQL command line?

If you want the paragraph to wrap in a particular way in HTML, you need to define the style anyway.

sorry, i am inserting more than one paragraphs. and i am pressing enter after each paragraph. And i inserted the text through a page in a text area. and when i display it on another page, it doesnt display the breaks.

you may want to conver the \n to <br> before you insert it into the database

or try converting the exisiting \n to <br> on the pages.

$var = eregi_replace("\n", "<br>", $string);

pull the data out of the db and run it thru the nl2br() function

i had the same problem, and i solved it with the <pre></pre> tag
make sure that when you echo the paragraph you put it between these tags. if you had a class definded just inculde it in here

There you go, PHPprog, problem solved in several ways. Btw nl2br is XHTML compliant from PHP 4.0.5, so you get <br /> instead of <br>. Nice.
