Cannot open php file page

Hi, I have been a member of a music recording discussion forum for nearly two years and the owner updated the site over the last weekend and now, some of the members are getting messages in IE5 indicating that you are trying to download a .php file and would you like to open from the site or download to your computer. You know the message, its the standard format one.

Question is, how do we stop that happening, if we associate the file with notepad or word, we can read the html text, but we want to read the page....like this one here. The owner uses this format so is it something he has done incorrectly or is there some plug-in that I am missing? I am assuming that because some of the members can read the page, its either a windows issue or something similar.

I use IE5.5 with a service pack 2 update.

This is a SERVER problem, not a CLIENT problem.
This means you, as visitor, can do nothing to solve this problem.

It seems as if the server which hosts this web no longer supports PHP. So, it doesn't execute PHP code and doesn't serve an HTML page, but a plain text file containing PHP code.

i'll i know browsers i are fucked up lately.

did u try netscape to vieuw the page?

because i have lot's of problems with the ie browsers lately to.

I use 6 on 1 comp and 5.5 on a other comp. The 6 has even more problems viewing pages then o well never mind that.

try an other browser, then u probaly at least now if it's an browser issue.

I just tried your link, and I'm on IE6 - I got the same thing you guys are getting. I also did a quick check on Microsoft's website and found nothing about this, so I'm guessing it's not a Microsoft thing.

I know the same thing happened to me (I'm on the webmaster side of things) when I tried to change my htaccess for our website to configure html files to process php. There apparently was a conflict between my web hosts php.ini files and the htaccess files for the site.

Ok, that probably doesn't mean much to you- but to make a long story longer I agree with Traduim in that it's the forum's problem not yours... they have to be the ones to fix it.

Well, you were all quite right, it was the server end, and due to a "misunderstanding", non of my fellow members could read it either. So I am sorry to have troubled you and many thanks for your helpful replies especially Elizabeth for the trouble you took to search around a few other sites too.🙂

If ever I ned to get a forum database site up and running, I'll know where to come😉 See ya!
