bamboozled by frames

Any HTML gurus in the house...

i have a frameset with a couple of frames ,menu bar in the top frame from which you can select an arbitrary url to load in the bottom frame

sometimes the the url loaded breaks out of the frameset and becomes the top page in the browser

if you hit the back button, you get the framseet back with the initial default pages

...however any url you now load in the bottom frame breaks out of the frameset and this cannot be remedied by donig a refresh or loading the url again, only closing the browser and starting with a new browser removes the problem

any ideas why this is folks ?

You should probably check all your links for the "target" attribute... you should name the frame where you want the info to go (such as "Main" or something like that) and then make sure your links look like:

Also, if any of your links point to pages that you don't control (such as external sites) the authors might be using javascript to break out of your frameset. There's no way to override that behavior, but you can explicitly launch the problem links in a new window (target="_blank") to keep them from disturbing your frameset.

Senate

You can put a piece of javascript on any of your pages that -need- to be inside a frameset that will make sure they are never left without their parent frames, even if opened directly.

Also, if you want to break out of the frame, but don't want to open a new browser window, use target="_top". Sometimes useful when navigating within your own site etc.
