save Doc as txt

Hi guys i have a problem! Exist any function that takes myfile.doc and save it like myfile.txt? I want to change all my uploads docs to txt to show them in my site. Thanks

No you can't, if you change a .doc in .txt you will have special character for WORD itself, just like ÅÿÿÿÆÿÿÿâÿÿÿ¦þ

and some other uncomprehensible

thanks for reply!I dont want to replace .doc with .txt . I want
to open doc file and save it to another folder with txt format.
Something like Microsoft Word which you can open a doc file and save it as txt. The same thing automatically with PHP code.

Well, if you can't call Word itself to do that with COM functions (I've never looked at the possibility), and you don't want to go crawling through people's reverse-engineering of the proprietary Microsoft Word (95? 97? 2000? XP?) format (or Microsoft's own description) to figure out how to write a parser that will fish out those bits of text that are bits of document, then you're probably pretty much out of luck unless someone else has done so.

Well ok I understand what you want to do and I have no solution but I know that PHP4 has been extended to Microsoft's COM technology. That means that you're able to handle WORD document as an object and make use of kind of API function... like open a word doc, read it, save it and why not save it as a HTML or TXT file

There is an article on this site about using COM functions on Windows systems; note that (a) you need to be running on a Windows system, and (b) you need a copy of Word. Don't ya just love proprietary software?
