puting images in blobs - do selects "overload" server??

hi

i have made a banner script which is putting banners in blobs. banner size is allways between 10 and 20 kb.

i would like to know whether this is hard job for server (mysql server, apache serve, cpu ...). is it better to use normal way and to upload banners to directories or can i put source of banners in blobs and use it as i described above.
