No idea where to start getting php on system

Okay, so I have been searching and searching for a tutorial that shows how to install php and get it to work, but I just have not been able to find one that I can understand.

I want to be able to write html pages using php, but I guess I need to install it on my system first. I'm using Windows XP Home Edition, and have not installed any extra servers or databases. I went through the basic install of php and told it that I'm using IIS 4 or higher (is that even right?!?). But I guess there's more to it than that. Any simple scripts I've written and saved onto my computer as either html or php files my browser can't read.

What steps am I missing? And while I know computers, I don't know them well enough to understand all that help that is out there...so saying to install certain binaries with certain servers doesn't mean much to me... 🙁

Get apache 1.3.x (whatever is latest) from http://httpd.apache.org and install it. Get the 4.2.3 PHP for Win32 zipfile (not installer .exe) and unzip it. Then copy the php.ini to c:\winnt and edit appropriately. You will also need to move a dll or two - all the instructions are in the README for the php zip file.

If you cannot find out how to do it from those three sites then maybe you should think about switching to ASP. 😉 just kidding. Don't ever subject yourself to that. Lata!
