if I need to select the last 5 rows of data
Does the limit # select the first # of rows of data or last # of rows of data?
if it selects the first # of rows, how could i make it to select the last # of rows?

if you want to select the last five records from a table that is sorted using -

ORDER BY username ASC

it would be the same as selecting the first five when the results are ordered by -

ORDER BY username DESC
LIMIT 5

If you cannot see what I mean by this if you post your query I will explain using your query as an example.

hmmm....now i haven't confirmed this but my memory tells me that you can use a negative value for the LIMIT in SQL statements. try to use -5 as a value.

LIMIT -5 certainly does not produce the last 5 records when using mySQL but I don't know about other RDMSs.
