This new version of Visio Professional is pretty sweet. One of the things I love is that you can reverse-engineer an existing database. With an ODBC connection, I can reverse-engineer any database on my MySQL server. Very Cool Stuff!
I have a question for anyone that may have worked with this. Is there a way to go the opposite direction? I have created a database design, and wish to push it over to MySQL. I'm just testing with a very simple table for now, but I don't see any way to do it. There is an Export to Database... function, but it doesn't seem to be the correct way for what I want to do. Anyone have experience with this, and can tell me where in TFM I can R how to do this?
I have successfully pushed tables to MySQL with MS Access, and vice versa... however, primary keys don't seem to be maintained unless you link the tables in Access from MySQL. Of course, if you are trying to create your design and relationships in Access, the only way to get them into MySQL is to export the tables, and unfortunately, as I said, the primary keys do not translate.
Any insight you talented db magicians can give me would be much appreciated. I realize I haven't asked a direct question, possibly violating the very Guidelines I have written, but I'm just hoping someone can give some resources where I can look for ideas.
Thanks!
