My code shows directories. But not their files

Hello. I can list directories, but how, under each directory listed that I printout can I list the files associated to that directory?

The code I have now is:

$path = "./"; // even "."
if ($dir = @opendir($path)) {
while (($file = readdir($dir)) !== false) {
if ($file=='.' || $file=='..' || $file=='_vti_cnf') continue;
if (is_dir($path."/".$file)) {
echo $file."<br />";

}
} 
closedir($dir);
}

It spits out my 2 directories now
Directory1
Directory2

What I'm looking for is
Directory1
zipfile | gzipfile (both files are in directory)

How to add that feature?

Make your method recursive...that's the easiest solution.

I am a beginner. I do not know how to do this

I can't visualize what code I physically place to do this
That is my problem

Maybe I am not good at asking this question...I've asked a few places, I can't get one answer I don't know if this is possible. No script does this. Nobody knows. Maybe it's impossible? What is recursive? What am I doing lol ?

You only echo files that are directories... !

if (is_dir($path."/".$file)) {
echo $file."<br />";

}

You could also use the is_file() function...

Yes, I know I am only showing directories. is_file only shows files

I want them both
directory
file 1 | file 2

That's how I want to display both. Forgetting my code, how does one do this?

I have something on windows that comes close to showing them and linking them. I didn't post that here as the code is long.

(To be clear, this is a member area. x # of directories, some to be added. i want them to just see the zip/gzip files linked under the dirctory listing. You know?)

so even if the code is wrong, is this possible?

I came close on windows with other code, but the link is wrong and linux doesn't even let the script work

It kills me. Should I post the longer script in windows? It almost works. This is depressing

Have a go with this code, I wrote it a couple of weeks ago for to answer a similar question:

//where "directory" is the name of the directory through

 $dir = opendir ($folder);
 while (($file = readdir ($dir)) !== FALSE) { 
  if ($file != "." && $file != "..") { 
   if (is_dir ($folder."/".$file)) {
    print "Dir: $file:";
    searchfolder ($folder."/".$file); 
   }
   else 
    print "File: $file"; 
  } 
 } 
}

Basically, that is what I need. however, do you
know how I can link the files?

I ask only because the variable for the directory becomes the variable for the file and I do not know how to carry it so I can link it

The filename.zip .gzip won't always match the folder name

What can one do?

The code that Rohan Hill posted is recursive. The searchfolder function calls itself when it finds a directory. That's the concept of recursion: simplify the problem into 2 cases: a recursive case and a simple case. In this problem, the recursive case is when it finds a file. When it does, it just calls itself with the new directory. Here the simple case is then it finds a file. When it does, it just prints it.

To link the file, instead of
print "File: $file";
write
print "<a href=\"$file\">$file</a>";
