Stock market feeds.

Does anyone know of a way to access current stock prices? Does nasdaq, or nyse, or djia, or whatever have a feed that you can connect to to get current stock data? Like maybe an XML feed or something?

I've got a couple projects brewing that will require me to get info about stocks... mainly just a current quote, but thinks like volume, daily/weekly/monthly highs/lows, etc. would also be beneficial. I'm only interested in USA stock exchanges currently.

I checked around the nyse, nasdaq, and djia sites for something but couldn't find anything of use.

I could always find a page that supplies quotes, and write a php script to get that page, and parse the text for the stock quote... but I don't want to do that. I think it'd be a pain to get something like that to work efficiently. A feed of some sort coming directly from the various markets would be a lot smoother.

Anyone know if anything like this exists, and where to go to hook into it?

The only company I know of that made a stock ticker available for you to put on your website (as opposed to downloading it to keep track of your personal stocks) was

... and I think they are revising their software at the moment, so I don't know how reliable they are.

Might be worth the click to check it out though, if you are desperate 🙂

Thanks for the reply Elizabeth, but that's not exactly what I'm looking for. I don't want to just display stock quotes on the page... I want to get the info, and do some stuff with it in my php script. Something like this:

1) personA busy x shares of y stock on zdate.
2) personA logs into the site on adate and the page tells him how much he has earned/lost.

I have a pretty big project in mind that I was going to use it for... this is just a small example of what I want to do with the stock quote data.

After a LOT of research I found out the NYSE actually has a datafeed you can use... for a fee. A fee of 5 THOUSAND DOLLARS per month. Yeah, screw that. I've been playing around with Curl functions to grab a page off of NYSE's site that displays quotes and then parsing the page for the actual quote. It's kind of clunky though... I kind of doubt I'll settle for this method.
