Sessions with Redirect's

Using a working session script for an authentication page, where would I put the redirect information on who has what privileges?

In clearer language:

User John logs in > and my script or my DataBase takes him to his information?

How can I set PHP or SQL to distinguish between users data?

Right now all my scripts are doing is establishing a session, and authenticating one or more user names and passwords.

Where can I find some information on how to set up such a thing?

Maybe something like this:

You could have a field in your table called 'level', where 1 represensts a user, and for example 3 'admin'.

I don't think I explained myself well enough.

My company has clients, that pay us to produce a private website for them. Right now, it's done through .htaccess which is only able to control one or multiple directories. The problem is...I want a single user and password prompt that will intellgently find the documents that belong to that user name and password.

Ben ----> Bens Documents
Mary ---> Mary's Docs

Ben ----> Can only access his, and has no knowledge of Mary's stuff.

Like a personalized page?

Is this too complicated for a newbie like me?

Anyone?? It doesn't seem like it would be hard to do...but I am not skilled enough to venture into this without guidance...
