q: search dir for html relation to a db?

sort of an odd question...

but...can i search a specific directory for any html file (ex: 12.html) and relate this to a table...if the html file does not show up in said table then it will report this value back to a query?

i hope that makes sense...i wish i knew the lingo better...sorry all...

example to illustrate this...

12.html = table.htmlfile then no output
12.html = is not found in table.html then it does output

argh...i can't explain this better...i hope it's clear enough...

how? what funtion? does this task (if any)...

The most comprehensive approach would be:

1. Read the list of html files from the table into an array.

2. Read the html files in the directory you're searching into another array.

3. Use array_difference($directory_array, $table_array) to get a list of all html files that are in the directory, but not in the table.

That's if you don't know what files are in the directory, and don't know the name of the file in advance. If you already know the name of the file, then things can be faster.

1. Read the directory until you find the file you're looking for. (But what do you do if it's not there?) If you already know it's there (or don't care if it's not) you can skip this step.

2. SELECT COUNT(html) AS count FROM the_table WHERE html='$the_file_you_are_looking_for'; where "html" and "the_table" are whatever the field and table you're searching are called.

3. If the count turns out to be 0 (just fetch the contents of the first field of the first row returned), then the file is not in the table.
