Folks who go "BUMP" in the night.....

Well, Halloween is now well past, but I'd been thinking for a few days on what a new, fun topic would be around the ol' lounge here.....we had so much fun on Newbie rules, Avatars, Editors, and OS's <sic?> that I just had to find something new to lark about with.....

....So, here goes, and with a POLL, too:

What do you think of people who "bump"?

What should be done to them?

Reports bumpers here, and offer your opinions on why they should find another career/hobby....

Let us know your feelings on the topic.......we'll have fun, and I'm sure we'll find new witty sayings, lyrics, or in[de?]structive code snippets galore!!!

LoL! Well of course I HAD to vote for this option... 😃

Although, I do have a confession to make- I've been tempted to bump once or twice in desperation.. but it wasn't on this board. It was on the "Witty Title Writers Anonymous" board. I just couldn't get my witty title questions answered in a timely manner.

Speaking of - what is an acceptable timeframe to re-post if no one responds to your original post? Is it like ebay if you don't get one single bid, you are allowed to re-list your item without penalty? 🙂

I personally think that the timeframe is not the issue, but rather the issue is whether there is anything new to add. I will typically respond much better to someone who comes back after a few hours or a day with "I tried xyz that I read from abc" than someone who says "anyone, help, please?" .... and I quite dislike "bump". I saw this the other day, and had to go read BuzzLY's netiquette post to myself 4 or 5 times before I could go back and edit the numbers I typed with the shift key down......

Elizabeth, FWIW, the poll is multiple choice, so you can give more than one option if you so desire, but I don't know if you can now that you've already posted.....sorry I didn't mention it before....

TBH I try to answer all 0 answers posts that I see but i don't look everyday. Some dudes are really lost and need help.

Question :
1. If this thread is fogotten, will you bump it so it comes back to life?
2. If buzzly's rules for da n00bs post is forgotten about will you bump it?

Bumping valid information isn't really annoying, aamof it is why we have sticky topics so that the admin auto bumps them for ever. I already bumped some usefull topics on this forum. God have mercy on my soul.

I do that, also. I don't want the forum to have a rep as unresponsive. However, there are some I just can't help, sometimes I don't even understand what they're asking.

Depends on your definition. I will not type "bump" in a message form. If it ain't worth saying....

I thought it was a sticky....really, on that one, if there's nothing like it available to users, maybe the admins ought to think about it.

Most people who type 'bump' in the form aren't doing it with this in mind. As for God, well, that's Theology, not PHP....

I don't have a problem with bumping a post, if there is something valid to add to it. Saying "I tried to foo the bar but all I managed to do was flurg the blatt. Any suggestions?" is fine.

Posting "bump" is annoying, and adds no value.

Even saying "I'm still stuck on this... can anyone help?" is okay, as long as it's not after 8 hours. A bump like that is fine after a couple of weeks -- it's much preferable to reposting the same question, which we have complained about plenty of times!

And, yes, I'm not against adding info to one's own post, just to saying "bump" or something equally inane for the purpose of moving the post up in the db......

but to be honest, i don't mind bumping as long it adds new info, or repeating of the question or something like that. And then i mean not 1-2 hours after some1 posted, more like 24-48 hours, or when ur post went to 2nd page bottemline

Well... I got bumped from my flight once, so I headed to the bar to get a couple of bumps of tequila. Someone bumped me from behind making me drop my bag, and giving me a bump on the noggin. I turned around and it was a stewardess (ok, female flight attendant, sheesh!). I immediately forgave her , and later on we bumped... uh... never mind.
