Before Making a site online. Try and make it offline. So download, Apache, PHP, Mysql and PHPMyAdmin.
Lycos is crap look for someone else to.

and learn all about setting up and all..
Also you dont need a book on setting it up. Its a very good Tutorial if it doesnt work for some reason just post something here so people can help you.
Now in that phpmyadmin you can make a database. Now with lycos they make it for you. So you can make tables.
Look at Spoono.com and look in there PHP Tutorials they have some really good ones for beginners.
