Gradient color in cells

I would like to make a gradation of color horizontally in cells. Lets say start with blue on the left and chage to red on the right. I would like this gradation to span across 6 cells horizontally. Is this possible? If so, how can I do it? Thanks in advance for any help.

gradients are available as style sheet attributes for Internet Explorer 5.5+ ONLY...won't show up in Netscape, etc.
