setting up a HTTPS connection

i was wondering what is the easiest way to set up a HTTPS connection and send data across to a network

any help/code would be greatly appreciated

To enter a secure site:

and then from that point on all relative links will also be through SSL.

I am writing an application which comminucates with a web server through https in a background call.
how would I go about setting the port, and appending the query string etc

I have to setup the the HTTPS connection myself.
will this be done through SSL???

If your server is setup properly, you don't have to do anything special. Just use [url]https://[/url] instead of [url]http://[/url]

Like this ...

https://www.myserver.com/myfile.php?variable=whatever

I may have to do this myself to connect to a payment gateway and get the return result. I'm much more familiar with Cold Fusion, where there is a tag set up to allow background http/https posts, but unfortunately time is of the essence for me (when is it not 🙂

I'm having trouble finding info on this from books and sites, hence this post...
