Frontpage and msthemes

How can I convert a page designed with MS Frontpage that uses Frontpage Themes to php? When I convert (or just change the file extension to .php, the navigation structure remains, but banners do not appear. A placeholder [x] only displays.

Just remember that some frontpage element require a server extension to run. It sounds like you are coming to your senses by going with PHP, take my advice and never use frontpage again. Better still put it in a bag and through it in a river (with bricks tied to it). You shuld take a look at the PHP editors thread, and get yourselve a PHP text editor.

IIRC, "FrontPage Webs" have all kinds of little dirs (and more in subtrees) that have some code in them, also. You might find the appropriate ones and call them with an include() or require() --- dunno if that'd work, mebbe worth a try though.

Wonder if MS could help you here? What happens when you do a "properties" call from a context menu on the "X" ??

Lastly, FrontPage can do some things OK, like put a site up fast, but $uper$tring is right --- so much more control and possibilities with PHP/Java/CSS.....

Thank you for all your help. I found a nice solution that works well. Add html to the mime definitions that get parsed through php (instead of just php). I then renamed the file back to *.html which is required in order for Frontpage to parse the file through the fpexdll.exe (parses htm and html files). It seems that this parser handles all of the msthemes stuff. It is more efficient to have the server parse html (I usually name files with htm extension) than to have php parse every single htm file.

How did you change the mime type? I don't seem to have access to doing this on my hosted website.

Is there any other way of having MSThemes & PHP on the same page?
