Ok I want to code a nice Forum system for a web page but I need source code to direct me in the ideal path. Where can I get some free source code for a nice forum so I can look over the code so I know waht I have to do?

I want a forum similar to this style

Bah.... Don't use PHPBB, it's -not- a good coding example to follow off. Neither is Invision Board, although it is a great forum. It's best to start from scratch.

Forums are just links of subsystems. You need an effective login system, a way to write to your database, and a way to read from it.

Use MySQL. I am trying to code a flatfile forum right now, and it's really crazy without MySQL.

Why reinvent the (forum) wheel.

Unless you have some great new idea for a forum, try using somthing someone has already been made. A lot of forums, including this one are very custom and have been tried and tested. I understand the want to develope your own but most forum code is open source and is ready to go in minutes.

Well I need to see what the guy with the web page wants if he wants phpbb we will go with that if he wants me to take the code and re code the entier forum I will do so even though I got about a month to do that lol but I must see what he wants first.

Opse I was looking at the code but where do you set the initial Administrator so that once it is put up you can add moderators ect.

This forum uses v bulitin. There is a free version and a pay for version. Just throwing that out there, take it leave it whatever.

Why does everyone use that term recreate the wheel.

I dont see any problems at all in making your own. At the moment its my current project im working on.

Maybe im too cheap to buy Vbulletin. (Im not just too lazy to pay for something that is possible and i can do)

Research Forums - What do they do. Is that Forum Popular. If so why?
How can i improve on what they did(Kinda hard really theres no way on catchin VBulletin until you've made your first one looked at the pros and cons of it and fixed it)

Think how am i gonna keep users and guests logged in the database

Does the site need Forum Moderators if so What duties are they to carry out.

Do you wanna stop people from Posting in a certain time frame.

Will there be Admins who get an Admin Panel to Delete Add Mods.
Get rid of Bad Words and Usernames, Ban People.

Theres more but really a person with logic can think of the rest.

Forums arent hard for the intermiadate person in PHP and Mysql. Its however very time consuming. I suggest code right first time. On every page(Or in php.ini) have error_reporting(E_ALL); so if theres an error you know and can fix it.
