If-else statement

I'm getting a parse error on the "if" line when I try to run the following piece of PHP script. What's the right syntax?

while ( $row = mysql_fetch_array($result) ) {
if ( is_null( . $row["StoreName2"] . ) {
echo("<P>" . $row["StoreName1"] . "<br>");
} else {
echo("<P>" . $row["StoreName2"] . "<br>");

your error is just here

if ( is_null( . $row["StoreName2"] . )

you forgot a )

try this

if ( is_null( . $row["StoreName2"] . ))

Watch those brackets... make sure you have this structure first:

if ( ...whatever... ) {

} else {

}

I noticed you missed a ) out of your first if statement.

actually you should tab anything that has { and end the tab on this }

eg..

if(..blah)
  {
   //stuff here
  }
//asdasd

..... unless, of course, you prefer the style of {...} that you and $SuperString use.

Thanks to all who answered! This is a terrific forum!

After you helped me clear that hurdle, I discovered (the hard way) that is_null is not the same as =="" . Apparently an empty cell in a table is not necessarily null. When I rewrote my code to evaluate for =="" , the if-else statement started working properly.
