Getting paragraph breaks in data base from a form?

Cant believe I am the only one with this question - lest it be so simple and I am missing it.

Need to take a form and place copy into the form, push the form data into mysql. Have the web page pull the copy as paragraph text and display in the page.

I keep getting one long string of text, no paragraph breaks, in the resulting code.

Granted I know I can place them <p>in the form, but I know eventually a client will want to cut and paste copy. Maybe nl2br might help? Although that does line breaks.

Come to think of it, maybe this form I am using now might be doing it right.

Any suggestions anyone?

I am just thinking here but couldn't you add the nl2br then ereg_replace </br> with </p> then place it into the db. This would seem to do the thrick.

$article2 =  nl2br($article);
$article3 = ereg_replace('</br>', '</p>', $article2);

Your need to make sure that nl2br puts </br> in but I can't remember it maybe </ br> anyway that should work.

I took the suggestion that was suggested and did a nl2br function in the page at rendering time. Not upon placing the info into the database, as I thought I originally wanted.

This way, the pages text is ever called up in the modify form, it will not have any <br /> html in it at all. The <br /> occurs faithfully at every blank line and at the end of every line preceeding a blank line, therefore it spits out 2 <br />'s

I think perhaps a better way would be:

$foo = ereg_replace("(\r\n|\n|\r)", "<br />", $foo); 

The problem being to do with various OS ways of handling new lines. Of course, it would be nice if there were seperate LF and CR (<br> and <p>) codes also!
