Foriegn languages

Hi all

Just wondering how does PHP/mySQL handle forieng languages, i.e Arabic, Japanese, etc.

I have built a small webeditor, now it displays correctly on a machine running Japanese 2k. However any changes to the main website via this webeditor turn into complete crap.

The webeditor on the 2K machine, displays the changes correctly, ie if a word is changed from english to japanese, it is shown, in the webeditor as japanese, all correct.

However when looking at the same database on an English machine or even any of the changes on the web site it looks like crap.

I have made sure that I have installed all necessary fonts to view the pages correctly, but it doesnt seem to work at all.

any ideas?

Did you compiled MySQL for multiByte support? If not, all multi-byte text, like Japanese, Chinese, etc. saved into MySQL will become jibberish. Take a look at MySQL's documentation on enabling this type of support:
