Error# 1104: TOO_BIG_SELECT

Still working on a query producing an error number 1104 (TOO_BIG_SELECT) ...
and still no ideas how to fix it.

does somebody know a command/script like phpinfo(); that shows the configuration or server vars from a mysql installation?

or maybe somebody knows, how to run mysql command line commands from within php?

or mybe there is a way to override mysql-settings like i can overrirde the php timeout ....

can somebody make me smile?

The default startup options are set in file "my.cnf".
With "show" command you can retrieve all settings.

With following php script you can show all variables with their values.

I found following directive @ http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/SET_OPTION.html

SQL_BIG_SELECTS = 0 | 1
If set to 0, MySQL will abort if a SELECT is attempted that probably will take a very long time. This is useful when an inadvisable WHERE statement has been issued. A big query is defined as a SELECT that probably will have to examine more than max_join_size rows. The default value for a new connection is 1 (which will allow all SELECT statements).

this could be a solution.

but how can i set this option at runtime?

just append it to my query string ?
-> (SELECT .... FROM .... SET SQL_BIG_SELECTS =1)

or do i have to use any of 'global' or 'local' statements?

i did the following:

                mysql_query("SET SQL_BIG_SELECTS = 1");

and it works.
