Needing some help

I have used php before, but never set it up. I had no idea what was going on at the other end. Now I've somehow inherited a website and it has to be built from the gound up. It's for a college newspaper so php would be great for us. Now, our web hosting company does not support mysql and won't for a while. Is there anyway to get around this or am I going to have to find something else?

If your hosting provider doesn't support mySQL then there is no chance of you being allowed to install it.

It seems strange that they give you a great scripting language like PHP but no database. As it's for a school the chances are they have some sort of permanent connection to the net, so you could always host the db on their network.
