dtmf??? signals

I am cnsidering setting up a computer that will:
1.) Dial out on a modem. The event will be initiated by times contained in a mysql database.

2.) Send out the appropriate tones to enter information into a menu driven answering system (as if you had entered them from a touch tone keypad).

3.) Then hang up.

4.) At the next event time, start the process again.

Is this possible and are mysql and php up to the task on a computer running *.nix?

That really depends on the type of software your interacting with (does it support commands through exec(), etc).Also I would say you will need at least one other third party tool to help with modem initialisations etc.
I would say no...... perl may have better support with some of it, not sure about the scheduling though.
