Brand new to php....can someone help me out a lil'

I'm brand new to php and I want to do a few exercises I've seen in some tutorials/etc on the net. Do I need a web server to just practice php? What is a good way to get setup. thanx guys

Install Apache+PHP. There are A LOT of guides throug inet how to do this.

start with some installer, like easyPhp, under win (so u can focus on php and not on linux stuff)
