Hmmm, don't even tell me. I bet it's WiFi, too, isn't it...Gosh, for a society with warp drive, the inventions get out this far so slowly....

I found a simple workaround to that, by leaving /xx/ every 10 lines, counting up. not quite as simple, but it saves me installing another program for facile tasks. 😃

            well it depends....

At work its Win2k, Vi, Dreamweaver (for sorting out the MS HTML coworkers send me), Photoshop and Illustrator, phpMyAdmin, MyCC and Apache 2

At home its Linux, Vi, the GIMP and phpMyAdmin and Apache 2

            MrRosary

Well im lazy i still have to count if its in between those /xx/
              now

the bounds of thy laziness are astonishing 😉

to each their own though =)

May be slightly off topic, but I found a php code beautifier out there (right after I finished mine 🙁. well, it was good exercise in working with regex anyway...).

                  http://www.bierkandt.org/beautify/

Can be helpful in case you changed your coding style over time (oh, isn't indention just a waste of keystrokes 😃?) and would like to get your scripts consistent.

For coding I used some notepad-like thing without any additional features for a long, long time, never succeeded in getting phpedit installed, and finally ended up with a tool called proton. Quite satisfied with this, though the documentation is rather non-existent than poor.

                    Photoshop
                    EditPlus
                    phpMyAdmin
                    ws ftp
                    command prompt 🙂

What else do you need? I've always hated wysiwyg editors. When I've used them in the past it seems like I end up spending more time cleaning up the code it makes, rather than just writing it from scratch.

Hrmm I use dreamweaver mx for the html stuff, when i need to create fast tables or anything perty, and also to debug html errors/

i use zend to create and code php, its pretty powerfull...

Photoshop7 ofcourse 🙂 and the old IE for previewing.

Also flashfxp(hint, to those who know what this is for)

It amazes me how many people use notepad for writing code. That's like digging trenches with a toothpick. It doesn't even have syntax highlighting!

I use vim for all text editing: SQL, PHP, HTML, etc. Nothing is more powerful or efficient than vim for writing code IMHO, altough it does take some time to become proficient.

I use Mozilla and Konqueror for testing web pages in progress, and primarily Mozilla (tabs) for documentation (PHP manual, HTML specs, etc).

And finally I use Gimp for graphics. I develop primarily on Debian with KDE 3.0, using various sizes of konsole (terminal). This is the best setup I have come across: everything you need, and nothing you don't need.

you don't always need powerful, and i ( personally ) dont need syntax hilighting shrug

edit: to add to that, theres nothing WRONG with any other editor, just a matter of preference 🙂

                            PHP Edit when it works.
Zend (until the trial runs out).
                            IE 6.
an many many more that get used every once in a while 🙂

                              php-edit while it is free.

putty (nobody?), I do most of the work in the DB through command line....

Finally, am using secure-shell for file transfer (i need SFTP)

Personally, I think the best thing about DW MX is that it tunnels ftp. I only work on one server that allows ftp -- my dev server behind the wall.

                                  What I use:

                                  PUTTY - (ssh no telnet)
                                  VNC
                                  Vi or Vim
                                  MySQLAdmin
                                  Photoshop
                                  ws_ftp and win_scp ( ssh )
                                  zend.com
                                  sed
                                  grep
                                  bash
                                  cvs
                                  diff

That is all I use now, then and forever.

                                  What I think sucks:
                                  Emacs
                                  Pico
                                  Notepad
                                  sh
