Compiling a php script

I'm playing around with phpgtk, and it's one of the best things I've seen this year, but It seems you still
have to parse it through the cgi php parser.

Is it possible to compile a php script into a binary file? (ELF/PE)

i dont know... i dont think...
but i know thats possible to compile php code into a bytecode usable by the php parser with zend optimizer... thats not free and thats for web...
