Hello,

I'm new to this PHP thing, but I've managed to get it to connect to my MySql and list things, which is good. But I'd like to tier it a bit. Here's what I can do now:

Orson Scott Card - Ender's Game
Orson Scott Card - Speaker For The Dead
Anne Rice - Interview With A Vampire
Steven King - Shining

What I'd like to see is:

Orson Scott Card
- Ender's Game
- Speaker For The Dead

Anne Rice
- Interview With The Vampire

Steven King
- Shining

Of course, this is a simple example, and not nearly as complicated as my real database, but it gets across what I'm trying to do. Basically, how do I tell it, "if the author's the same as before, don't print again".

If you have combined author and title in the same field in mysql, take a look at kmax's thread http://www.phpbuilder.com/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10221592

Assuming a correct database design -

$current_author = $result_array['author_id'];
$while ($result_array = mysql_fetch_array($result))
{
	if ($result_array['author_id'] != $current_author)
	{
		//new author
		echo "<br>" .  		$result_array['author_name'] . "<br>-" . $result_array['book_title'];
	$current_author = $result_array['author_id'];
	} else {
		//same old author
		echo "<br>-" . $result_array['book_title;
	}
