Lots of Warning Errors....

Hello folks,

I'm no programmer by any means. Or should I say rocket scientist. Because that's what all this looks like to me!

I just bought an Ad Tracking program called Lightning Track that had to be installed on my domain. I followed the instructions as best I could but unfortunately I only speak English. It looked like English but it had funny words like MySql and php and cgi thingy's.
Well, I got as far as changing the db.php to what I think I am suppose to enter in it and I also edited the crons.tx file.
I went to my domain and did the setup and it worked...after the 133rd edit of those files. Now the program I want comes up but I get all these warnings.

Anyone interested in walking me through setting my files up on my server?

well i dont use fopen or any of that. But you need to chmod those files 777.

the header information is because there is output
PHP is just a Server Side Language. WHich is quite powerful.

I'm just now trying to find out what this CHMOD 77 thing is.

The instructions say to upload most of the files in binary Mode..done that, and then gives me certain files to upload in Ascii Mode...done that........except for one of them. the CHMOD 77 log.txt file. I don't have one to upload. Where do I get it?

What I'm trying to do is on this website:

I uploaded the files.
changed the cron.txt to ....different things :-)
and edited the db.php file to ..different things.

I need someone who can look at all this and chew bubble gum
at the same time to help me. I'll pay for the phone call!

Chmod 777 is just a FTP thing. use must right click the text file and goto Chmod of in SmartFTP is goes tehre automatically. PM me if you need more assitance

I PM Planetsim but no answer yet.

Still need help. Right click log.tx on my server using my ftp commander program does not give me anything about a choding anything.

Need help please.

Does it give you anything about permissions?

"777" means this:

owner has rwx (read-write-execute) permission
owner's group has rwx permissions
anybody on the server has rwx permissions

Do you have SSH or telnet access to the server, or just FTP? What OS are you using at (?home) to put these up to the server?

FWIW, if you fix the permissions issue, the first 3 errors will (probably) go away. We'll have to see about the last one...

yes, all the errors are gone. But what you said about others on the server having permission also...that scares me.

How do I find out about the ss thing?

Where is your site? I mean, on what box? A "hosting" company? You didn't answer the question, what kind of access do you have to the server that runs your php scripts?

SSH is "Secure SHell", a substitute <?> for telnet. If you are hosted by another company/individual, it's up to them to give your access to the server, in whatever way they choose. Talk to them, I suppose.

If you run your own server, then it's likely that SSH is easily available. Which brings up another ??, what OS do you run at wherever you do your development from??
