Need sum of strings... Is this possible?

I have a table of products:

PRODUCTS(ID, Name, Description, MasterID)

PRODUCTS
ID | NAME    | DESCRIPTION     | MASTERID
===|=========|=================|=========
1  | WIDGET  | All purpose     | 0
2  | Mac     | Mac version     | 1
3  | Linux   | Linux version   | 1
3  | Windows | Windows version | 1

MasterID is a foreign key to PRODUCTS.ID

I need to do a SELECT in mySQL that will list the product and all of it's children in one field.

So if I select ID = 1 Then I would get a field CHILDREN that has Mac Linux Windows. If there are no children get NULL

If I understand what you want, the answer is no.

The query will return three rows. You can concatenate them together in php, but you can't have the SQL query concatenate across rows in the result set.

Thanks... I currently am ConCat'ing in PHP just wanted to see if it could be done in SQL so I could use a SQL Table Manager Class that I wrote for a past project. The class will render a db table into HTML with add edit delete links. But it won't do any pre/post processing on the data. Maybe that will be my next version.
