File Upload timeout

I'm trying to upload pdf files.
They work fine when the files are small, but when I try to upload >1 Mg files, I get a php timeout.
I tried to put
set_time_limit(600);
but in vain.

Any ideas ??

I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, just repeating what I've ever heard:

1. maybe the time limit the server gives to php to execute a script is smaller
2. the server can also set restrictions on the size of uploads (check phpinfo())

this problem is so similar to my,

i cannot to upload files that are greater than 1MB
in linux i get the error like ='connection closed'

on windows i get the error like= 'no current page to display'

this problem i cannot to solve already 3 weeks

all my php.ini are normally setted, i just trying to upload a file
