php sessions and browsers?

Hi,

I have a question about PHP sessions and browsers, I am maintaining an online products catalog and the shopping cart for a website, there is strange problem with adding items to the shopping cart, when you add an item to the cart sometimes nothing goes to the cart but if you close the browser and start a new session then everything is fine. has anyone encountered this problem before?

what do you mean "everything is fine"?

it might have to do with the lifetime of the PHP session. In the php.ini file, you tell PHP that sessions become invalid after a certain time period...
