gd-jpeg: JPEG library reports unrecoverable error: Empty JPEG image (DNL not supported)

Not sure what is happening here I am inserting one image into 2 rows in a database one is orginal size and the other is optimized but the orginal is fine but the optimized puts this error message in my logs

can anyone help

PHP 4.2.2
GD 2.0
Apache 1.3.46 (what ever is the last newest one)
mySQL 3.23.49
