How to manage a Local/Virtual Store Databases?

Hi, I´m planning to create a script based on php/mysql for a future shop. But I don´t know the basis of how to manage the database/s with the inventory of the store.

What is the best option? Managing all from a local database, and making continuous updates on the internet server? But, if I sell something in the virtual store... is there any form of reflect it on the local server automatically?

I really need help, pls! I´m lost in deep space...
