File permissions for server process?

What do I need to do to get fwrite() to actually write to a file. Any way I try this I get permission denied errors returned.

I assume I need to add something to .htaccess but I don't know what to add nor do I have any idea what username the host server uses. I am using a commercial host server so I don't have access to the server config. files.

I'm sorry if this is basic stuff to many of you.

fopen for a start.

From there you must Chmod the File 777 if your not on a Windows Server
