sessions not working...

I have tried everything to make sessions work....I've checked every tutorial...., I've tried the shortest and more simple scripts there are.... and it just doesn't seem to work!!! 🙁

I tried the following example taken from the php.net manual:

AND IT DOESN'T WORK !!!! ARGGGGGHHH!!! :mad:
It echoes 0 on every reload...

Does someone know what the problem is?
I'm using PHP Version 4.2.3

Check the values of the following directives in your php.ini -

[Session]
; Argument passed to save_handler. In the case of files, this is the path
; where data files are stored. Note: Windows users have to change this
; variable in order to use PHP's session functions.
session.save_path = C:\PHP\SESSION_TEMP

; Whether to use cookies.
session.use_cookies = 1

I am assuming that you are running on a local windows machine -

if "session.save_path" is set to point to a directory that does not exist your session will fail.

if "session.use_cookies" is set to zero then you need to pass the SID from page to page.

Ok, I've changed the php.ini

session.save_path = c:\php\session_temp
session.use_cookies = 1

But it still doesn't work

I noticed this:
If the session was indeed created, I file should be created in the session.save_path directory rigth? I checked that after running the script and it's empty........???

any other ideas?

Check the following line as well -

; Handler used to store/retrieve data.
session.save_handler = files

Remember you must restart Apache after making changes to the php.ini file.

hey, maybe I know what's the problem!!!!!

I checked php_info()
and it turns out that changes to php.ini are not taking effect!

Where should it be ( the php.ini file ) ?
Currently it's in c:\windows\

Any other directives I should change???

Are you sure you edited the right copy of your php.ini.

It sounds like a silly question but previously I have found people have made lots of changes with no effect - to find out in the end that they were editing the wrong file.

If not, post the [Session] section of your php.ini so I can have a look.

I can't believe I have wasted so much time on this to find out that the whole time I was changing the wrong copy of php.ini!!!1
