arguments given like a directory

I have a php-script which supplies a special page given by an argument:
http://www.mydomain.com/myphpscript.php?show=page1

i've heard it's possible with a little modifcation to give the argument like a subdir:

http://www.mydomain.com/myphpscript.php/page1

i think they use something like that at php.net...

but when i tried that my the answer ist "cgi error - incompleted headers returned"

what can i do to get it working?
i'm not really sure if this is a php problem!?! my provider uses iis 5 with php 4.2.2. what has to be changed to get it working?

but the problem is: my provider uses iis5 and not apache... so that doesn't really help... anyway: thanks for this hint.
