Making my pc accessable through web

Hello, I want to use my pc (windows 2000) to host my website as well as ftp,telnet,mail etc. I have a dsl connection and also IIS 5 that can browse local host..but what do i have to do to to make my computer a server and accessable through the internet? Please help me with your ideas

Yes its possible. I firstly advise get enough protection of your files you dont want accessed to the Web. You'd need a Firewall etc.

But yes its very possible

I found this thread on Tutorialforums. if you do a search for hosting on own computer you should find similar results

What it may not say is that you should Check with Your ISP if its ok.

If not you should get paid hosting.
Im not sure how true this is. But some hosts wont allow you to host a site on your own computer, and if done not only will they discontinue there service to you they may give you a fine. But i know the first bit is very true

If you have a static IP address, you should have no problem. Just run your servers and point your domain them. If you don't have a static IP, it is a bit more difficult, but it can be done. Either way, you will need your ISP to do DNS for you if you want a domain name hooked up.

Start your services (IIS, ...)
To find your IP-Adress, open a DOS-Window and enter

ipconfig

Then you can try to access your Webserver-Service.
Open your Webbrowser and instead of localhost or 127.0.0.1 enter your real IP address. If you are able to connect to your webserver everybody else can connect to it knowing the IP address.

Well when you say you have a dsl connection theres your static IP. Id also try and avoid the link being with your IP. Its Very unsafe

I would be very suprised if you get a static IP from a DSL connection.
