viewing files locally

hi all,
i am running dreamweaver mx on xp pro i have successfully installed apache and php 423 , mysql
i can successfully view my first script on my ftp server but cannot seem to be able to view it locally
i.e http://localhost/ i have tried defineing my site locally but it will not work

I presume my root folder will be just as normal say
C:\splashalley

my remote I tried local/network but unsure on the remote folder which i thought would be
C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\

testing server
server model PHP MySQL
access local/network
testing server folder C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\
url prefix http://localhost/

can anyone see an obvious mistake in the above

i did as you said and it still did not work and also I couldn't make a connection to a database
but using

remote info:
local info/network
remote folder : C:\php423\www\

Server Model PHP MySQL
local info/network
testing server folder : C:\php423\www\
it worked and i was able to make a connection to a database

should i go with this or is there some confiquration problem i have to deal with
