Does anyone know how to write a fully customisable search function?

so that you have a page with tickboxes, with the row titles. and you then click the ones you want to display, then put in the text that you want to search for, and submit a page, which passes these values into the page and then will only out put the selected rows?

if this makes any sense please help.

i know about like and stuff, but i want to be able to select the fields to be show.

use mysql_fetch_array()
or

in the mysql_query

have

this

mysql_query("SELECT feildname,feidname2 FROM tbl WHERE blah LIKE 'blah%'");

Oh and im assuming when you mean feilds.. Like the feilds in the table
