variables not past on through includes

my index.php file:

include(http://mysite.com/includes/filetoinclude.php);
echo $testvar;
?>

my filetoinclude.php:

<?
$testvar = "it effin worked at last";
?>

....

no dice when i run index.php...any suggestions?

are you including the file starting with http:// or are you including it from your local server without an http://?
