Whats Your Favourite Language.

Ok. pretty pointless but what is everyones favourite language be honest i know not everyones favourite is PHP some may love ASP, Qbasic Maybe or Even C++.

I've done PHP,HTML and most basic Web development Lanuages. A bit of Qbasic and Python. And started on C++

I think C++ is pretty damn good. Although hard i kinda like it. But at the moment my favourite is PHP by far. I dont like ASP i have looked at it and went..

I better not say what i said.

Yea i know i missed a lot but not many people on these forums code on them. I know most on that list arent very popular either.

It depends on what I'm using it for. I'd use a screwdriver to open my PC instead of a hammer, but that doesn't mean I like my screwdriver more than I like my hammer...

Good point. But say you have C++ and C# to do the same job kinda like PHP and ASP.

But i guess most of the time your favourite language is the one you know the best. Maybe cos you can do more.

Hmm.. Your Hammer and Screwdriver. Why not use a hammer. Nice excuse to get a new Computer.

I like PHP most at the moment - only cos its what i've used the most.

However, i have looked at ASP, and found it to be very much like VBA - which im not too fond of!

At the moment, i'm getting to grips with Java, and am quite sure that as i use more of Java, i will find it better than PHP.

However, i think for web development, PHP will always be my favorite.

I do love SQL though, always gratifying when you write a really long and complicated query, which fetches the correct result.

I personally wouldn't use C# to try and do the same job as C++, since C# is just a Java ripoff. As far as ASP is concerned, if you like broken pages and pages that run on a Windows webserver (oxymoron I think, and yes I know Apache can do ASP but it's not the best) feel free to use it, I'll stick with opensource that can be run on multiple operating systems like Perl or PHP.

I make money with PHP so i like it more. But I remember those days when I used to program in AWL... Good old times when I was still innocent... Basic too in the 80s... Bah PHP is my pick.

ASP is a funny language, when I was developing for it nothing was well documented and people were always using VB DOM when my fav was JS DOM... shame. JS DOM was easier when documented. Lost track 2 years ago.

as WeedPacket pointed out every language has it's use. You won't program a web app in cobol (although a web server supports COBOL pages...), same goes for databases and everything u use.

yes i agree with Weedpacket. But PHP and ASP pretty much do the same job. As well as C# and C++

Now like i think everyone is saying including myself it comes down to which is your favourite. Weedpacket would use a screwdriver than a hammer. I would use a hammer.

Most of C's qualities date back to Algol. Very important ancestor, is Algol; it promoted the idea that virtually everything - even a variable assignment - is an expression, and can (syntactically) be used anywhere any expression can be used.

Point of order: HTML/XHTML/XML don't count as a programming languages (at least, not by my standards). You can't program in HTML. If we could, we wouldn't need PHP. (I mean, compare HTML with PostScript...). If we're not restricted to programming languages I have to admit a certain fondness for English.

Has anyone actually tried searching for a PHP job? It seems like the only jobs available out there are for ASP and .net. Maybe that's cause Microsoft is only 10 minutes away.

Id love to see the day when Microsoft was gone.. Or not the big coporate Giant.

But then again some other big thing will come up and thatd be the New Microsoft.

Arh well i guess we are all stuck with Microsoft for now.

mmmmmmm, PERL is, without a doubt, scripting to the core. It is all about data structures and PERL has it completely together in that category....I am sure that many would agree. I will say that PHP is number 2 on my list as it is accomodating for the lack of real data structures, with a HUGE amount of built-in functions. ASP just plan sucks. lol

I enjoy PHP... don't know much about PERL
... but the truth is that PHP = PasteFromClipboard(PERL & C++)

Actually, my syntax had one minor error (not so minor when put to production use though), the results of the hash table combines were an hash table reference, not a hash table. The %BHash should have been $BHash. 😉 ...oh well, it was late. 😛
