Well should it be a deffinate download and how many of you guys got it already. I only want to get it if it is worth geting so let me know what you think.

Well, according to the PHP developers, it is the greatest version of PHP yet! So I guess what they are saying is that it's worth it 🙂

To me looks worth it. But If you can't get a web server that uses it what is the point in getting it lol 🙂 I will leave it until I can get a web server with it so I hope they catch on fast 🙂

I've been using it since 4.3.0Dev and 4.3.0RC2 and 4.3.0RC4.

I think my favorite little feature is the -r switch for the command line.

$ php -r 'print $_ENV['SHELL'];'

Thought this new feature was in 4.3.0Dev and 4.3.0RC2, I didn't see it in 4.3.0RC4... I hope they didn't get rid of it!

Hope not that feature looks cool but the big down fall now is that the web servers are not upgraded to it and might not even accept its use.

Do you mean your server?? I've been using both the 4.3 apache module and the CLI binaray for about 3 months now (the developer versions been a little buggy, I'll be upgrading tonite, yes I keep UNIX hours...no sleep). If your webserver likes to take a while to upgrade stuff (thats understandable) then you can compile it on your own machine as the CLI binary and use it like that for the time being....

I run my own web server and I'm on 4.2.3 right now with apache 1.3.27 and mysql 3.23.54

If your web host has decent software for control panels, cPanel for example, and they have it on the right setting, 4.3 will be upgraded within 2 hours of the final release...

Well At the moment I donot have a web server because 1 my ISP will not allow me to have my own and 2 I can't afford 1 and I am in a nice waiting line for a sweet server that is free. It is real nice but the read each application manually so I will be waiting for a long time. Damn I wish I had the money to pay for a server 🙁

The last thing I would do is update anything on a production server, unless it's a security update.

Plus, the only thing I'm looking forward to is try/cath/throw and the re-vamped object suppport in the new ZEND engine.

I'll skip 4.3. 4.2.3 is working fine for all of my sites.

Really, they implemented the try, catch and throw constucts?? Cool, care to share where you found this information?? I couldn't find any info in the release or change logs.

Yea I did not see anything about the Try catch throw in the realease notes. Well anyway Try Catch Throw is going to make it similar to Java. (Java Programing Language) All I Know is I think I will Download it and try it out on my local network server 🙂 and when I get a Web Host That supports I will go public 🙂

Is it best to install it off the zip file or the exe file?

I'm sorry to confuse. What I should have said is that I'm looking forward to the Zend Engine 2, which is still in alpha I think.

For some reason I thought this was going to be included in 4.3, which it is not. So 4.3 is kinda a letdown for me.

Zend Engine 2 is gonna be in PHP 5 🙂 I read that somewhere, but I forgot where 😛

4.3.0 has been in the making for about eight months, everyone should upgrade to it. And btw, yes it includes security updates too. I forget them but I KNOW some exist.

ZE2 was never planned to make it in any php4 release, it's always been planned for php5. Maybe the fact that some win32 snaps binaries include ZE2 caused the confusion for some.
