A good advanced PHP application development book?

Can anybody recommend a good book on application design (specifically content management systems, if I were to be so lucky) in PHP4? After standing in Borders bookstore for hours poring over books it seems like every book is 75% useless material...

Basically I want a good advanced design and implementation guide for creating (preferably LAMP) MySQL/PHP4 web applications. I want code for reference, but I don't want it to waste pages spelling out the basic stuff either.

I'm going there later on to make my decision, so any ideas would be extremely helpful, thanks 🙂

"PHP and mySQL Web Development" by Welling and Thomson is an excellent book. It covers just about everything - from extremely basic concepts to far more advanced ones. Very good book 😉!

There is an entire chapter, include code, discussing Content Management Systems too 😉

Nice, I'll have to have a look at that one 🙂 I also found this book: Web Application Development with PHP 4.0 (by Tobias Ratschiller, Till Gerken). Anyone heard of this before?

Well, thanks for the suggestions guys! I went to Borders tonight and picked up Web Application Development with PHP 4.0 (the book I mentioned). Although the PHP Bible looked useful, it seemed to be spread a little thin.

It was a big tossup between this and the Welling and Thomson book, but I think WADP4 will suit me better. Thanks again for the posts, you gave me something good to compare with 😃
